OER and Course Design Workshop Online

An issue in higher education is that the cost of textbooks has caused many students to opt not to purchase them for class. Leveraging and incorporating Open Educational Resources (OER) into your course is a popular approach to saving students money while still providing access to quality materials.

This 90-minute workshop introduces learning the tools and practices for incorporating Open Educational Resources (OER) into your course. The course begins with an educational system review of OERs that includes the popular Creative Commons resources. Then we will review how to identify instructional learning gaps, explore OER repositories and evaluate existing OER to identify educational and course materials to meet your needs.

During this 90-minute workshop, we will:

  • Explore OER repositories

  • Evaluate existing OER to identify educational and course materials

  • Demonstrate best practices and tools for effective search and quality evaluation

  • Use OER effectively in Canvas
