Copyright in Scholarly Communications Online
This presentation will inform researchers and academics how copyright applies to their scholarly publications. Participants will learn how traditional publishing methods can affect an author’s copyright ownership of their scholarly articles as most publishers require researchers to sign a copyright transfer agreement. Attendees will discover tools and tactics, including the SPARC Author Addendum, to help them negotiate with publishers to retain certain rights to re-use and share content they have authored. Participants will also understand how publishing their work in an open access journal may allow them to retain full copyright ownership of their scholarship and learn how to manage those rights.
